Praised by Chinese-American composer Chen Yi as “a pianist with great technique and high spirit”, Jialiang Zhu has been active in Toronto as a performer and as a teacher since her arrival in 2007. In the near future, Jialiang will be featured as a soloist in the Beethoven Choral Fantasy with the University of Toronto Orchestra and Choirs, and will be joining the Banff Centre Collaborative Piano Program. Especially passionate about contemporary music, Jialiang has been involved with projects such as Tapestry New Opera Workshops, Kitchener-Waterloo Open Ear Festival, Luminato Festival, and Canadian Stage Festival of Ideas and Creation. Jialiang’s strong affinity with chamber music has brought her many awards and scholarships, such as Felix Galimir Chamber Music Award and New York Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival Scholarship. Currently, Jialiang is pursuing her doctoral degree in collaborative piano at the University of Toronto, under the tutelage of Lydia Wong and Steven Philcox.
